They have jam packed the Holiday Toy Guide package this year… but, you’ll have to act quickly because there is only a limited number of memberships.

There has been some concern of eBay getting saturated – so they are doing their part by limiting the number of people who get their hands on the 2009 Holiday Toy Guide…

Holiday Toy Guide: SOLO Email #3

SUBJECT:  Everything I Know I Learned From The Wii: Lessons Wii Can Learn

EMAIL:

The Wii has been one of the most popular selling toys since it was first introduced a few years ago… Every holiday season, stores have put limitations on the number a customer can purchase. I don’t expect it to be quite as hot this year… but, there are still lessons we can learn from the rage it has brought to eBay. Previous years, the Wii has end up on eBay selling for TWICE the retail price because of the limited availability in stores (usually the case for why new toys sell so well on eBay during the holidays)… But, one thing I’ve noticed is that the auctions that tend to sky rocket – are the ones that differentiate themselves from the competition. This is usually accomplished by bundling the wii with other popular wii products to create a unique lot for sale on eBay.

There is a lesson to be learned here…

If you want to stand out from the competition, you have to do something different! This is common sense – but, you’ll be surprised how many sellers overlook this simple strategy.

Look at the most popular toys this year and get creative when you consider how you are going to list. Here are some ideas to get you thinking – lessons learned from the wii:

  1. Any accessories available for this item?
Example: If the toys is a doll – look for clothing, bottles, diapers, and gear for the doll

  2. How about pretend play?
Example: If the toy is a pirate ship – look for pirate costumes or dress-up accessories to include with the ship.

  3. Adding Extras
Example: If the toy has disposable parts (paper, crayons, baking goods, beads, etc) – include extras in your lot

Get creative – think this way… “If I wanted this product… I would also want ________” and bundle it with the toy you are selling.

SUBJECT: Toy Trends for 2009 – A Must For New and Used Toy Sellers

EMAIL:

Looking at trends in the toy industry can be valuable for an eBay seller… it helps to know what kind of inventory to keep an eye out for – and you can bet that the most popular toys this year will likely follow these trends. This is true for new and used toys.

Following are some trends that outline what buyers are paying attention to this year and are useful to keep in mind when shopping for inventory.

1. Eco-Friendly Toys

“Green” is IN… it is everywhere and toys are no exception! Toys that are environmentally friendly are expected to be very popular this year.

2. Budget Friendly

The economy is all the talk – but that doesn’t mean parents aren’t going to be buying toys for their kids this Christmas. Retailers are already gearing up to offer some great prices on their toys this year.

3. Realistic Toys

I think it started with Baby Alive years ago… but it has become a huge trend these past few years and looks like it will continue. These are toys that respond to touch and interact with the child somehow.

4. Classic toys

Many parents are turning to toys that they had when they were young.

5. Movies

There are always a few movies that are released during the year that have a very timely DVD release right before the holidays. Look at what movies did well this year – and keep an eye on the merchandise available for that movie… usually they do well on eBay.

KNOW which toys are selling this holiday – the biggest selling season of the year – with the Holiday Toy Guide.

SUBJECT:  How Is The Economy Going To Effect Toy Sales On eBay This Year?

EMAIL:

If you are an eBay seller, you probably can’t help but think about how the economy might effect the biggest selling season of the year… holiday toy sales.

First of all, I think it is important to note that nobody can predict how things are going to pan out this year (or any year for that matter)… no matter who says it or how they say it… until we are smack in the middle of the season, it is just a prediction.

Even so, it would be unwise if we ignored the status of the economy and didn’t take a closer look as to how this selling season COULD be affected. It is equally important to examine strategies we, as sellers, can put into place that will help ensure a profitable selling season regardless of how glum things may look today.

What We Can Rely On

  1. The children always come first
Parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles… no matter what… will find a way to make their child’s holiday one to remember. Even if it means cutting the budget elsewhere, they will find a way to buy toys and gifts for the children in their lives.

  2. Even in a slow economy, the holidays still bring out good cheer
The holidays are known for being a time for hope and generosity. Although you wouldn’t always recognize this when customers fight over the last (latest and greatest) Elmo on the shelves… the motive is still to bring cheer to the loved ones in their lives during the holidays.

  3. Most people don’t know how to budget
Consumer debt in our country is through the roof… we don’t really understand how to control spending… and, although I can’t encourage getting into more debt, I think it is safe to assume that people will spend what they feel like they have to spend to make the people in their lives happy this year. This means people are going to be buying the hottest toys for the children in their lives… even if it means going into debt.

Okay, so we know people are still going to buy. In fact, Deloitte Research and Retail Forward are predicting sales to be flat this holiday season compared to a year ago when it dropped significantly. At the same time, the International Council of Shopping Centers has predicted a 1% increase in sales compared to last year’s sales.

The only thing we really know is that analysts are all over the board. No one really knows what will happen… But, we can assume that, although they may be forced to cut back from previous years (you do have to have food on the table), we are a society that is known for getting deeper and deeper into debt. But what if people do cut corners and aren’t interested in (or able to) buying the hot toys that are released for this holiday season?

They are still going to buy toys!

I’m confident that even if parents can’t afford to, they will find a way to buy toys for their children. And, if they can’t afford to get the newest toys for this year… they will buy used. Did you know that used toys sell well all year long – and they do quite well during the holiday season too? I can’t help but wonder if new toy sales slump a bit this year… only to find that used toy sales go through the roof!

We’ll have to wait and see to find out – but, it doesn’t hurt to be prepared.

One of the best strategies toy sellers can implement this holiday season is to offer both used and new toys to their customers.

Even though new toys traditionally skyrocket during the holidays… and that means sellers can buy them at full retail prices only to see them double or triple on eBay… there can be a much higher profit margin when selling used toys. You can pick up gently used toys at yard sales, consignment shops, estate sales and thrift stores for pennies on the dollar and turn them around for 100-200% profit on eBay!

But, it all comes down to knowing what sells…

The Holiday Toy Guide is created to help you make the most from your toy selling efforts on Ebay… to help you know what is selling (and what isn’t!)… and in an upredictable economy – this is MUST HAVE information.

ARTICLE – Summer Toy Guide: The Serious eBay Sellers

May 18th, 2009 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Summer Toy Guide

SUBJECT: The Serious eBay Sellers

You have probably heard of people
who have become multimillionaires
overnight be selling stuff on
eBay. Well…..Im not saying that
it never happens, but I am saying
that it is only half true.

There really are many people who
have made and continue to make
fortunes by selling stuff on eBay,
however, not many of them, if any, did it
overnight.

All, or at least most all,
successful sellers on eBay share
at least one common trait….they
all work hard. The successful eBay
sellers do not dabble in selling
on eBay.

Part of working hard to be successful
with selling on eBay is conducting
research… but, let’s face it,
who has time to research?

It is imperative to kNOW what is selling on eBay… otherwise, it is just a shot in the dark. Sure, you might get lucky – but, let’s face it… that doesn’t happen often. You learn what sells well on eBay by researching current and completed auctions… paying attention to selling trends… and tracking what is doing the best.

The Summer Toy Guide is a must if you are selling used toys on eBay this summer. Quite a few markets slow to a stand still during the summer months – and selling toys are a great way to bring in some extra.

You can get your hands on the Summer Toy Guide package for only $27… and look at what is included:

- 3 months access to the MyToyGuide membership site
- 3 months of weekly reports of at least 25 toy auctions that are currently doing well
- Access to the Toy Reference Guide
- Downloadable Summer Toy Selling Guide Report

It’s only available for a short time – so you’ll have to act quickly.

ARTICLE: Summer Toy Guide – Know What Sells: 3 Quick Tips

SUBJECT: Know What Sells: 3 Quick Tips

Have you ever noticed that some eBay sellers seem to have no trouble finding hot items to resell on eBay? Some people seem to have this gift – they can go to a sale and instantly pick up a few items that end up doing really well for them on eBay… It’s like a 6th sense or something – they just have this feeling or hunch that an item might do well. Maybe you are even one of them!

Here are four tips to keep in mind when you are out and stumble on something that you think may be a nice seller for you… Although I recommend researching eBay – applying these tips will help you find inventory without even opening a web browser. …And who knows – maybe you will end up developing this 6th sense! ;-)

1.    Look for things that need to be replaced – or have parts that need replacement. Games… toys… etc. that are popular but are likely to having pieces get lost easily. Focus on these pieces – this could be a gold mine as down the road, people long to find a complete set.

2.    Talk with kids – your own, a grand child, nephew. Even better – take a child toy shopping with you and watch what they are attracted to. Every Christmas I have found that some of the best predictors of the hottest toys are KIDS!

3.    Watch for retired or out of production (OOP) items. Items that are temporarily out of production can be hot sellers – but, that rise will fall once production kicks in. Take Webkinz for example… they have become a hot seller – not only because the manufacturer was not able to product enough for the demand… but, they had quite a bit of trouble with distribution. Now that they are shipping again to stores – the demand has gone down… at least for the new Webkinz. The super hot ones are those that are retired!

To know what really sells, I always recommend researching eBay – but, I also know that research can take time! If you are looking to sell toys and would rather spend your time listing and selling inventory than researching – let me do the research for you.

The Summer Toy Guide Package is only available for a short time – through Friday, June 5th. Now is the time to get in on this great deal.

Valued at over $70 – you get all this for only $27:
-    3 months of weekly hot lists including at least 25 toys that are currently selling well (with the links to auctions to prove it!)
-    3 months access to the Toy Reference Guire – an online directory to help identify and value used toys
-    3 months access to the MyToyGuide membership site with inventory resources and selling tips
-    Downloadable Summer Toy Guide report filled with tips for buying inventory and selling used toys this summer.

ARTICLE: Summer Toy Guide – Pro’s and Con’s

May 15th, 2009 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Uncategorized

Here is an article to help you promote the Summer Toy Guide… Feel free to change it to your own voice to make it a better tool for you.

TOYS: New vs. Old

Selling New

Selling new toys can be a lot of fun… especially during the holidays. But, it can be a crazy game. Some of the most popular toys don’t even reach retail prices on eBay – while others can bring in three times what you bought the item for. Making it even more difficult is the fact that what sells great this week – may not be the best seller next week. The availability of the toy on store shelves is often the best indicator of whether a toy will skyrocket or be a dud – but, store inventory can change from day to day… making it very difficult to predict what is selling best and what to keep an eye out for.

Pros for selling new

  • Less risk – items can be returned to the store if they don’t sell
  • Finding inventory – you can shop online and call ahead of time to find stores that are carrying the item you are looking for. This can allow for you to purchase more of the same items… making better use of your time listing auctions – and saving time is saving money.

Cons for selling new

  • Hot selling items can have their ups and downs – going through both within the same week sometimes!
  • Lower profit margin – This isn’t always the case… but, in general the profit margin isn’t quite as good with new toys. Let’s look at it this way… when the die-cast Cars were super hot, you could pick them up for $3-4 each. Some of them were selling for $20-30 easy. If you take into account the other costs (listing fees, final value fees, paypal fees, etc.) – you probably end up paying $5-7 for each NEW car. So would have easily tripled your profits. However, if you find a USED Blue’s Clues Handy Dandy Notebook at a yard sale for $.25 and turn around and sell it for $20 on eBay… we can assume with listing fees your costs total $3. – That is a profit of over 600%!

Selling Old

In my opinion, selling used toys are quite a bit easier… and, honestly, I prefer them. The profit margins are often higher and the market can be just as good. Although finding used toys that are selling well can be difficult, if you have a general idea of what to look for, however, you can usually do well. In addition, because used toys don’t usually increase in availability, they tend to remain hot sellers for longer periods of time.

Pros for selling used

  • Higher profit margins – As I mentioned earlier… the profit margins can be much higher because you are paying, literally, pennies on the dollar for items.
  • Used toys tend to hold their value longer.
  • You can find inventory based on a theme – rather than finding a specific item.
  • Room to experiment – Since used inventory is so cheap, you can take a risk every once and a while and buy something on a hunch. A $1 investment could turn into a $30+ profit!

Cons for selling used

  • Can be difficult to find inventory because it all depends on what people are selling and wanting to get rid of; however, if you have a general idea of what sells (ie., Blues Clues is hot – so look for anything Blues Clues), and know where to look, it isn’t so tough.
  • Higher risk – it depends on where you buy your inventory… but, usually used items aren’t easy to return. Thrift shops will often have an exchange policy – but, you take a risk when you buy from a yard sale.

Now there are benefits to selling both used and new toys – regardless, the absolute best resource for knowing what is selling on eBay… is eBay itself! Spending time browsing through toy auctions for a length of time will give you a sense of what is selling… this Summer Toy Guide is designed to bring you some of this research.
